Bob grew up on a hillside farm, which he and his wife Bonnie purchased in 1980 and continue to operate. The Bairds pasture beef cattle and produce and market maple syrup from their 13,000 tap Sugarbush. Bob serves on the board of the Paramount Theatre and is a member of the Select Board in the town of Chittenden. Bob also serves as moderator for the town of Chittenden as well as a Justice of the Peace.
