Farm to Medicine Cabinet Plant Walk with Julia Shaw

Adult Programs
foraging

Back by popular demand, our Farm to Medicine Cabinet series returns to the Farm! The farm landscapes are capable of so much more than the first meets the eye: they produce nourishing foods, but also give us powerful plant-based medicines from weeds, cover crops, ornamental gardens, forests, and backyards. This “weed walk” will introduce you to medicinal plants commonly found on different parts of Vermont’s working lands, deepen your appreciation of the local food movement, and introduce you to nature-based, local medicine as part of a resilient food system.

Julia Shaw is passionate about connecting people to the plant world.   She is a community and folk herbalist who is currently part of the staff at Railyard Apothecary. Julia’s interest and studies in the field of herbal medicine began in 2007 at the University of Vermont. She graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies focusing on alternative medicine and sustainable food systems.  She has also studied at the Gaia School of Healing, learning holistic medicine, traditional western herbalism and sacred plant medicine along with energy medicine and reiki. In addition to schooling, Julia has acquired a great amount of herb knowledge from spending time in the garden, where she grows medicine to make into tinctures and other remedies for her community.  She is very grateful to have learned from so many amazing teachers and healers throughout the years and feels excited to share with others what she has learned.

This program is offered in partnership with Railyard Apothecary by Urban Moonshine & Burlington Herb Clinic.
