Across the Fence, UVM Extension and WCAX’s long-running program, checks back in on the Maple Career Development Event, organized by UVM Extension and Shelburne Farms’ Lynn Wolfe. The event challenges the next generation of maple producers—high school students—to compete in grading, tasting, and installing sap lines, all while learning about the career possibilities in this growing industry. The event was held virtually this year, but the competition was still “Grade A.” Find out how they shifted to a virtual format, and meet the winning student sugarmaker!
